Sabrina Collares is an artist and mentor born in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil in 1985 and currently based in London. They graduated from Middlesex University with a BA (Hons) in Fine Art in 2018. The artist is interested in postcolonial perspectives in art and culture and investigates the influence of visual language in the decolonisation of the traditional narratives regarding, especially, the History of Brazil.

Their practice is extremely detailed and labour intensive, the pieces present a clear European aesthetics appeal intertwined with their varied cultural heritage. Currently, the artist is volunteering around the United Kingdom with farming and is producing a series of self-portraits and works inspired by their present experiences.

Recently they started to write about their travels and life. Writing is a crucial part of their artistic practice and this has always played a huge role in their career. Seeing text as a work of art itself has been life-changing for Sabrina, and allowed them to express themselves in a very intuitive way. Those testimonies are beyond honest and powerful, Notes to Self (how the artist calls those pieces) are becoming more frequent as they embark deeper into self-exploration and mustn’t be taken for granted as insightful and mesmerising pieces of writing.
This is my legacy.
